1. Drifter discussion
- Iridium Radio Checkout
- Brent has rec'd loaner phone. Will activate today or early next week in order to test.
- Should be returned by end of next week, unless it works for us, then we purchase ($1200/ea). We need 2.
- We must purchase month-to-month b/c prepay doesn't support short burst messaging. Will test open connection and SBM.
- Data logger/Controller
- We must come up with functional req's. Gene will set up a mtg next week with the players: Gene/Brent/Scott/Chris P./Hans T.
- Wave analysis is currently being performed. Nov waves look like they get bad very quickly.
2. Spring Deployment
- For adaptive sampling, we need to use nitrate and salinity. May add temperature but much more variable than the first two. Chris P. to get this data to Brent.
3. WHOI deployment
- Brent testing his comms idea and works well in lab on >200' CAT5 cable
- BUT, outside it did not. signal only went 50' on CAT6; 100' or more on CAT5 it did not work.
- Possible issue was radio; must retry with another radio. If these adapters don't work, there are more expensive German ones that will.
- Bruce Cold Testing
- Elbow motor was maxed out (300cts/tick) at room temp, but at cold it could never get this high (e.g., 10C was 210cts/tick at 100 mA; at 2.5C was ~100cts/tick)
- Doug/Scott learned at ALA there are two types of harmonic drive grease. Unknown which we have. We should order new harmonic drive with low temp grease.
- Could also put spot heater on harmonic drive to keep it warm(er).
- Fingers on Bruce need tightening
- Should siliconize top and bottom of pucks to keep from sticking. This is an important CONOP to share with Bruce @ WHOI.
- currently running a cold spiked seawater sample to see effects on array.
- Need to start planning the forward team visit for radio testing, and MBARI's deployment
- Also, MRI team should go to exercise the software interface. Will speak with Kevin
- Must decide who will have access to instrumentation in the event of a crash.
4. JdF
- Girguis here Monday; have not heard from Vic about an ASTEP II phone conference update. Chris S. will try contacting her.
- Gordon Plans
- Scott will mount the modified combiner box (2 48V buses)
- We will pull Gordon out next week. Probably needs a once-over. Replace it with laptop 'brain' so Doug can continue testing DWSM.
- HP interface needs to come up to 4500psi, so modifications needed on various parts
- Testing of HP interface slated for week of Feb 14.
- Wand
- Doug's option; put pumps at ends w/ checkvalves. He's found some pumps that would work.
- We will test effect of the pump in-line with the sample
- must get an idea of the impact of flow-rte on ISMS--will talk to Pete next week
- pump will be closer to elevator
- 35C is max temp DWSM can handle.
|
Max temp for DWSM is 51 C (125 F). It's the tygon tubing, which can be replaced if needed. The time to replace it would be the rebuild, 3 week of Feb. PVC based tubing would have a temp rating of 73 C.
